To make weight/fat loss start I truely believe there are two important factors to consider into the fitness equation…portion control and activity. Of course there many more to consider but I would like to focus on two simple habits that are often overlooked. Here is a funny situation that I wanted to share with you:) Enjoy!
In the last year our house has acquired another indoor member. We decided to bring in my hunting companion Boe to join the family! With adjustments she has been become an incredible companion…but for some reason I took notice of her ever growing waist line. My hunting machine has now grown into a waffle eating couch potato. Boe has become a begging food stealing machine from the our indoor cat and of course my children. Now our cat has is literally huge. Clyde is 23# and has run the household for over 7 years basically living a low stress life. Since Boe has moved in I have noticed the cat is starting to lose weight, a reduction in his waist line and his low stress environment is now being shared with our 85# Boe. So here is my hypothesis of Boe’s (dog) growing waist line Clyde’s (cat) unwanted weight loss:)
Since Boe has moved in her activity has greatly reduced with very minimal activity but her food consumption has basically tripled. Boe consumes the cat’s, my childrens, and her own food and then will veg out on the couch all day with minimal exercise other than chasing the cat occasionally. Now Clyde’s 23# body has started losing weight basically with 2 easy weight loss methods…restricted portion control ( because Boe steals it) and an increase of activity from Boe chasing him. I have noticed the an increase in the cat’s activity throughout the day and he does seem to be more sociable…maybe he feels better with an increase of new energy? Now Boe energy has reduced…taking several naps a day and basically is very lathargic! Commonly with people prior to starting an exercise program they are tired and fatigued but once they start they experience a new wave of energy. Kinda funny how the animals resemble people in this situation:)
I truely believe to start your weight loss/fat loss you need to initially be accountable for what calories you are consuming and increase your activity. Studies show that people overeat by 12-20% and their activity is very minimal. Today’s food has a lot of hidden calories that people are shocked by when they log their food intake. Start by using several calorie tracking sites. Here are a few that I like www.dailyplate.com and www.caloriecounter.com.
So…I hope you enjoyed the little scenario of my pets:) A great goal today is to start tracking your calories and increase your activity!
Make it a great day!

Steve, I hope you start taking your poor dog for some daily runs! Maybe she needs to join the running club on Sundays?
Great Idea!!! I think she would be a great running partner:)
