Shooting From The Hip

by Steve Auxier on 10/16/2009

Heeeeeey it’s Steve here:)  As I am growing older and hopefully wiser I am becoming more in tuned with the psychology of fitness and nutrition.  Throughout the day I am constantly intrigued by individual situations and random thoughts projected by the media.  Each week I am going to have a broad discussion of related topics of why obesity is overtaking our wonderful nation.  Here are a few topics that will be covered in the weeks ahead.  Please feel free to comment on these topics.  Remember your personal email and information will not be shared and will be 100% confidential.

Dedicated to your success!!

  • With the evolution of fitness and health clubs everywhere why are the obesity numbers on the rise?
  • Why are health clubs packed with selectorized weight machines and jam packed with cardio..fitness gyms of the past were free weight mainly?
  • Why is the most successful nutrition program over 50+ years…what is there secret?
  • Do we need supplements to drop those unwanted inches and to improve our health?
  • Why are city parks empty?  Why do basketball courts look like ghost towns?
  • A recent study shows that 3% of kids actually ride a bike..why?
  • I think it is interesting each month a new fat burning supplement is released and is supposed to be the “best”…I thought last month’s supplement was the “best”?
  • Why fitness infomercials are a multi billion dollar industry?
  • Is saturated or  is the trans fats causingheart disease?
  • How the food industry uses the labeling laws to label foods as “fat free” or contains 0 trans fats.
  • Why the basics of fitness are still the best approach.
  • Have you ever wondered why the “training zone” chart for cardiovascular is labeled  “fat burning” at the bottom with the low heart rates and the high heart rates are labeled “aerobic” zone.
  • How did our grandparents eat high saturated fat, starches, sweets with low obesity rates and now our standards are on the opposite spectrum with obesity  prevailing?
  • Why there was 20,000+ ACL injuries in young athletes in 2008?
  • Why physical therapists are treating more young kids from play ground injuries on the play ground and gym class?
  • Why high school aged kids are taking cholesterol medications and are showing beginning signs of Type II diabetes in grade school?
